The Tropicana Public Speaking contest was the culmination of a month long public speaking unit in fourth and fifth grades. The children chose speech topics and used the writing process to write their own original speeches.  After the speeches were written, the students practiced and timed their speeches in preparation for the classroom contests.  In December, each class held a classroom contest and had a panel of judges select first, second, and third place winners who then attended the school contest.
