The Commons Groundbreaking

On Monday, October 1, we celebrated the groundbreaking of our next building, The Commons: Performing Arts Center and Cafe. The new building, which will open in August 2019, completes our iconic colonnade and nationally recognized PK3 - 8th grade program. We are excited about the new opportunities this project will afford our students.

The entire HCES community as well as families and special guests joined together in the courtyard for the ceremony led by Head of School Peter Klekamp and Chaplain Mother Beth Pessah. Students wore new t-shirts commemorating the event.

The Commons: Performing Arts Center and Cafe, will offer greater hands-on opportunities in the “arts” elevating our STEM program to a STEAM program. With a full performing arts theatre and dedicated classroom space for the fine arts, brain-based learning opportunities will be available for students from PK3 – 8th grade. The latest research reinforces that when children receive sequential music instruction, it can impact their proficiency in language, reading, math and cognition.

The Commons state-of-the-art performing arts facilities will feature a full stage, acoustical paneling, theatrical lights and state of the art sound equipment, teaching students all components of a fine arts education. Students will engage in the art of reading music, playing an instrument, musical theater, set design and choral instruction.

This new space will offer additional opportunity for our performing arts productions without the disruption to our physical education classes and athletic program, therefore, elevating both our fine arts programs and our championship athletic program.

We hope that your family will join our school community as we "Complete the Colonnade!" For more information about this exciting project, email hwilbourn@hces.org or call Holly Wilbourn at 850-383-1007.
