Dear Families,
We want to reach out with an update regarding the Family Empowerment Act, also known as HB 1, that went into effect on July 1. At our annual Board of Trustees Retreat in August, Skylar Zander, who serves as president of Americans for Prosperity as well as Adam Emerson, Executive Director of the Office of Independent Learning and Parental Choice and responsible for running the Florida Empowerment Scholarships for the state, presented information regarding HB 1 and answered questions from the trustees.
At this time, we have created a working committee as a subset of the Board of Trustees that will research, explore the program, ask the questions relevant to HCES, and ultimately provide a recommendation to the Board. This committee, comprised of board members, parents, and administrators, will begin meeting this fall with the goal of making a recommendation in the coming months.

The goal of the Board is to make an informed decision in advance of the 2024-2025 school year and any deadlines necessary for the next academic year. As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to either of us.
Thank you for your support of HCES and for being a valued member of our school community.
